When is ROAR for Kids?

Saturday, April, 27 2019. Check-in and registration begin at 6:30 a.m.

What is the best way to get to Oregon Ridge Park?

Due to road closures, we suggest arroving before 7:45 a.m. or waiting until after 9:15 a.m. Please allow extra time for traffic delays.

Coming from the north:
Take I-83 South to Exit 20A for Shawan Road East toward Cockeysville. Merge onto Shawan Road. At the first traffic light, turn right onto McCormick Road. Turn right onto Beaver Dam Road (cross over I-83), and Oregon Ridge Park will be on your left.

Or:

Take I-83 South to Exit 20B (Shawan Road West). Follow Shawan Road to the first light, Beaver Dam Road, and turn left. Oregon Ridge Park will be on your right.

Coming from the Baltimore Beltway:

Take 695 to I-83 North to Exit 18 (Warren Road). At the first light, turn left onto Beaver Dam Road. At the next light, make another left to remain on Beaver Dam Road (cross over I-83), and Oregon Ridge Park will be on your left.

Or:

Take 695 to I-83 North to Exit 20B (Shawan Road West). Follow Shawan Road to the first light, Beaver Dam Road, and turn left. Oregon Ridge Park will be on your right.

When will Beaver Dam Road be closed?

Beaver Dam Road will be closed from approximately 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. There will not be any access to or from Oregon Ridge Park during this time. Please plan your arrival time accordingly and allow extra time for traffic delays.

 

What if I just want to enjoy the festivities? Do I still have to pay?

Yes. Even if you're not running or walking, a reduced registration fee will still be charged if you wish to participate in the Jungle Festival activities. Please note that commemorative event T-shirts are not included for people who wish to participate in the Jungle Festival activities only. If you wish to purchase one, you may do so at the time of registration.

Can my husband/sister/best friend/co-worker come just to cheer me on?

Since so much of our event is beyond the running we ask everyone to register for the event. (In other words, you are not required to run to enjoy our event!). We don’t have a separate rate for spectators since even spectators get in on the action! Everyone at the event must be a paid participant with a signed waiver.

 

Who does ROAR for Kids benefit?

Registration fees, sponsorships and donations will support research and treatment programs at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

 

What should I bring to the event if I'm running or walking?

  • Shoes: Please wear appropriate shoes.
  • Layers: Weather is unpredictable, so please be prepared. Be aware that while the event does start at 6:30 a.m., it will warm up as the day continues. Be sure to wear layers to ensure you are comfortable throughout the event. Please note that ROAR for Kids will be held rain or shine. Check the weather report the night before, and bring rain gear if necessary.
  • Registration fee: Whether you're registering at packet pickup or on-site, don’t forget to bring your registration fee with you. Please be aware that there is a $5.00 price difference between the advance registration fee and the late registration fee.
  • Offline donations: Make sure to bring all offline monetary donations you have collected through your fundraising efforts and the offline donation form listing all offline donations. You will need to turn these in upon check-in at the event

Are dogs allowed at the event?

The ONLY dogs allowed at the event are service dogs. This is strictly enforced. 

Can I use a stroller in the 5K stampede race?

Yes, you may use a stroller in the 5K race. Please be sure to watch out for your racers.

Can I wear headphones or earbuds in the 5K stampede race?

Headphones and ear buds are not permitted on the 5K stempede course. Please do not bring them with you on the day of the event.

Where will the oasis with refreshments be located on the 5K course?

We will have one oasis featuring water on the course; it will be located at the midway point.

How long is the low-mileage fun walk? 

This walk is less than one mile in distance.

REGISTRATION FAQS

How do I register online?

Click here to access the online registration form. You will want to have the following information on hand when you start the registration process:

  • Team name (if you are joining or creating a team)
  • Names of all participants you are registering
  • T-shirt sizes for all participants (Please remember that event shirts are only included for those registering for the stampede or walk. Participants coming only for the Jungle Festival may purchase a shirt for an additional $10 during registration.)
  • Valid credit card for payment of registration fees
  • Billing address for credit card


Do I have to register online to participate in ROAR for Kids?

No, you can also register by mail, fax ,or email. Print and complete registration form sending the form back to Kennedy Krieger Institute with your payment by April 22, 2019.

Are registration fees tax-deductible?

Registration fees are not tax-deductible due to the services received at the event. 


What is an individual goal?

We encourage all participants to fundraise before the day of the event. Your individual goal is the amount of money you hope to raise for ROAR for Kids. This goal is completely personal, so you can set it as high or as low as you want.

 

Is it possible to join or switch teams after I have already registered for ROAR for Kids?

Yes, even if you registered to participate as an individual or as part of another team, you will always have the opportunity to join or switch teams. Simply email ROAR@KennedyKrieger.org or call Kennedy Krieger Institute at 443-923-7300 and the Office of Philanthropy will assist in placing you on your desired team for ROAR for Kids.

 

Can I join or create a team if I have already registered for ROAR for Kids as an individual?

If you registered to participate as an individual, you will always have the opportunity to become or create a team. Simply email ROAR@KennedyKrieger.org or call Kennedy Krieger Institute at 443-923-7300, and the Office of Philanthropy will assist in placing you on your desired team for ROAR for Kids.

 

I participated in ROAR for Kids previously. How do I go about registering this year?

If you have participated in the event before (even when it was called ROAR for Autism), you can use the same user-name and password to sign in this year.

Everyone else needs to create a new user name and password.

 

Why does my ROAR for Kids fundraising page say 2011 on it?

If you participated as a ROAR for Autism attendee, your personal fundraising page will have the date of the first year you participated in the event. We recommend you update your personal page to represent the correct date (April 25, 2020) for ROAR for Kids 2020.

 

Am I guaranteed a T-shirt with registration?

All participants who register by Wednesday, April 1, 2020, are guaranteed a T-shirt. We cannot guarantee a T-shirt to anyone who registers after that. Please remember that event shirts are only included for those registering for the run or walk. If participants coming only for the Jungle Festival would like to receive a shirt, they may purchase one for an additional $10 during registration.


I registered to SNORE for ROAR, but have not recived my T-shirt. When should I expect it?

All T-shirts for SNORE for ROAR participants will be mailed out the week after the event takes place.

 


FUNDRAISING FAQS

How can I increase my fundraising goal?

Log into your participant center, and at the top right corner, you will see a box titled “Your Goal.” Simply type in your new goal amount and hit update. Your website will now display a new goal, and your thermometer will adjust accordingly.

 

How do I resize my pictures for my fundraising web page?

To upload photos to your fundraising web page, the photos must be 200KB or fewer. Be sure to check the size of your photos before uploading, and if necessary, re-size them in a photo-editing program such as www.picresize.com. Please email ROAR@KennedyKrieger.org if you need assistance resizing your photos.

 

 

What does it mean to be a team captain?

Team captains are responsible for editing their team’s fundraising web page. Click on “My Team” from your participant center to add information about your team for your donors to read.
