Roaring for Kids at Heart
The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) is participating in this year's ROAR for KIDS on April 28th, 2018! By joining our team, your support goes directly to the MCDD. Here’s what we’re raising funds for:
1. Self-Advocates – our friends at People On the Go. Funding supports the substantial transportation costs for people with disabilities to get to important events around the state – like testifying for important bills in Annapolis. They can’t advocate if they can’t get there. Did you know we spend $30,000 a year on transportation just for self-advocates? But getting to further reaches of the state means more funds are needed.
2. Project HEAL – our one-of-a-kind medical-legal partnership. Funding supports families and children receiving care at Kennedy to have affordable, world-class legal assistance in matters of special education, housing, benefits and other important areas. More funding means more people served.
3. Student Trainees – our highly-desirable internship program. Did you know we train more than 20 undergraduate and graduate students each year from fields such as law, public health, community health, and health care administration? Through these hands-on and comprehensive learning experiences, our trainees leave here well-prepared for their careers, with valuable work experience under their belts and broad exposure to disability issues. Your funding helps us send students to conferences throughout the state and country.
The Maryland Center for Development Disabilities is Maryland's only, and the country's first, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. We provide leadership to advance inclusion for people with disabilities through training, research, and community service. Funds raised from the event will help the center to expand its partnerships throughout Maryland.
