The Child and Family Support Center is a home, center, and community-based therapy program that provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, service coordination, and mental health services to families living in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. We provide therapy services to children between birth and their entrance into kindergarten and mental health services to children, adolescents, and parents who have children receiving services at Kennedy Krieger Institute. In our work with families, we often identify situations in which families have an immediate need and unfortunately, there is often no funding available to address these emergency situations. For example, a family may need a baby gate to ensure safety in the home, a family may be out of funds for food or diapers at the end of the month, a family may be transitioning from a shelter to a home and need assistance in purchasing a crib or bed for their child. We would like to have a Family Emergency Fund available so that we could be immediately responsive to these needs.
