Event FAQs

When is the race?

Saturday, October 19, 2019

How much does it cost?

Your race registration is FREE as long as you raise the fundraising minimum for your selected distance.

      • Fundraising  minimums for each of the races are:
        • 5K: $200 fundraising minimum
        • Team Relay: $1,000 fundraising minimum ($250 for each member of the relay team)
        • Half-Marathon: $250 fundraising minimum
        • Balti-Moron: $350 fundraising minimum
        • Marathon: $300 fundraising minimum
        • Virtual Racer: $100 fundraising minimum

Since each Relay Team will have four members, the teams are required to raise a combined total of $1,000. If the relay team does not collectively raise $1,000, it will be up to each of the four runners to split the difference.

You will be contacted by Institute staff to give your credit card information. Please understand that your credit card WILL NOT be charged if you meet your minimum fundraising goal by October 31st.  Your credit card WILL be charged on November 1st for any remaining balance.

Where is the race?

Where is the expo? What are the expo hours?

I am traveling from out of town. Can you recommend local hotels and lodging options?

Who does the race benefit?

The funds raised from the Kennedy Krieger Institute Baltimore Running Festival team will support our rehabilitation programs, in which aggressive, innovative therapies help individuals with disorders and injuries of the brain and spinal cord recover. In addition, funds will support the training needs of patients with disabilities who participate in the event, through the funding of adaptive sports, scholarships, new therapy equipment and participation in marathons across the country. Recreational activities are often overlooked for individuals with disabilities, but Kennedy Krieger recognizes the important benefits—including improved health, self-esteem, social connections and community reintegration—of exercise for its patients.

With this charity team, we aim to increase the number of Kennedy Krieger patients who are able to participate in the races each year, open the door to improved physical fitness for those with disabilities, and fund research towards a cure for paralysis. Thank you for sharing our vision!

I have already registered online for the Baltimore Running Festival. Can I still join the Kennedy Krieger Institute Team and fundraise?

You will need to email us at Events@KennedyKrieger.org and we will work with you on an individual basis.

What is an individual goal?

Your individual goal is the amount of money that you hope to raise for Kennedy Krieger Institute. By joining our team you have committed to raise the fundraising minimum for your selected distance.

      • Fundraising  minimums for each of the races are:
        • 5K: $200 fundraising minimum
        • Team Relay: $1,000 fundraising minimum ($250 for each member of the relay team)
        • Half-Marathon: $250 fundraising minimum
        • Balti-Moron: $350 fundraising minimum
        • Marathon: $300 fundraising minimum
        • Virtual Racer: $100 fundraising minimum

I have formed a team. How does my fundraising differ?

Groups of individuals (outside of relay teams) are able to form a team with neighbors, family members, co-workers, and friends if interested. Please keep in mind that the team fundraising total has to collectively equal the amount of individuals on your team. For example, if you have 2 people on your team, you must collectively raise $500, or 5 people must raise $1,250.

This can be done in a variety of ways. One person can raise the money for the entire team, each individual can still be responsible for their own goal, or all gifts can be made directly to the team page. The team total is calculated by all the gifts that have been made to the team and each individual's fundraising pages. If the team does not reach their collective fundraising goal, the individuals who have not reached their goal will be charged the difference.

I am registering for the team relay. Do all four members of the team have to register separately? Do all four members need to commit to raising $250 each?

All four members of the relay team must register for the event and commit to raise $1,000 AS A TEAM. During registration, relay teams can choose to form a team fundraising website or continue with only individual websites. Each runner will still need to register individually and will be asked to supply the name of their relay team. If the relay team does not collectively raise $1,000, the individuals who have not reached their goal will be charged the difference.
